Sodium polyphosphate is commonly used to enhance chemiluminescence reactions with acidic potassium permanganate through a dual enhancement mechanism, but commercially available polyphosphates vary greatly in composition. We have examined the influence of polyphosphate composition and concentration on both the dual enhancement mechanism of chemiluminescence intensity and the stability of the reagent under analytically useful conditions. The average chain length (n) provides a convenient characterisation, but materials with similar values can exhibit markedly different distributions of phosphate oligomers. There is a minimum polyphosphate chain length (∼6) required for a large enhancement of the emission intensity, but no further advantage was obtained using polyphosphate materials with much longer average chain lengths. Providing there is a sufficient average chain length, the optimum concentration of polyphosphate is dependent on the analyte and in some cases, may be lower than the quantities previously used in routine detection. However, the concentration of polyphosphate should not be lowered in permanganate reagents that have been partially reduced to form high concentrations of the key manganese(III) co-reactant, as this intermediate needs to be stabilised to prevent formation of insoluble manganese(IV).  相似文献

Photosensitized protein cross‐linking has been recently developed to seal wounds and strengthen tissue. Although the photosensitizing dye, Rose Bengal (RB), is phototoxic to cultured cells, cytotoxicity does not accompany RB‐photosensitized tissue repair in vivo. We investigated whether the environment surrounding cells in tissue or the high irradiances used for photo–cross‐linking inhibited RB phototoxicity. Fibroblasts (FB) grown within collagen gels to mimic a tissue environment and monolayer cultured FB were treated with RB (0.01–1 mm ) and the high 532 nm laser irradiances used in vivo for tissue repair (0.10–0.50 W cm?2). Monolayer FB were substantially more sensitive to RB photosensitization: the LD50 was >200‐fold lower than that in collagen gels. Collagen gel protection was associated with increased Akt phosphorylation, a prosurvival pathway. RB phototoxicity in collagen gels was 25‐fold greater at low (0.030 W cm?2) that at high (0.50 W cm?2) irradiances. Oxygen depletion at high irradiance only partially accounted for the irradiance dependence of phototoxicity as replacing air with nitrogen only increased the LD50 by four‐fold in monolayers. These results indicate that the lack of RB phototoxicity during in vivo tissue repair results from upregulation of prosurvival pathways in tissue cells, oxygen depletion and irradiance‐dependent RB photochemistry.  相似文献

Synthetic organic pigments are widely used in modern and contemporary works of art. They have been examined by a variety of techniques including spectroscopic methods such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman, and X‐ray powder diffraction as well as chromatographic or mass spectrometric techniques such as pyrolysis‐gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (LDI–MS). Often, a combination of techniques has been used to examine these pigments. This paper describes use of Raman spectroscopy to create a database of colorants including two pigments not previously reported, PO1 and PO2. Then, using Raman spectroscopy in combination with LDI–MS, samples from modern works of art by artists including Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, and José de Rivera were examined in order to identify the pigments present. One finding was that Rothko used a variety of red pigments over the course of his career including PR11 which has not been previously reported in artwork, and PO2 found with its positional isomer PR1. In hardware design, it is necessary to simulate the anticipated behavior of the integrated circuit before it is actually cast in silicon. As simulation procedures are long due to the great number of tests to be performed, optimization of the simulation code is of prime importance. This paper describes two mathematical models for the minimization of the memory access times for a cycle-based simulator.An integrated circuit being viewed as a directed acyclic graph, the problem consists in building a graph order on the vertices, compatible with the relation order induced by the graph, in order to minimize a cost function that represents the memory access time. For both proposed cost functions, we show that the corresponding problems are NP-complete. However, we show that the special cases where the graphs are in-trees or out-trees can be solved in polynomial time.  相似文献

A discrete-time model for an age-structured population in a patch-type environment is presented and analyzed. Comparison techniques for difference equations are used to find sufficient conditions for population persistence or extinction. The persistence and extinction theorem is used to define the critical patch number, the threshold for population persistence. Several examples are presented which illustrate the results of the theorems. The model is applied to a watersnake population.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss Sobolev bounds on functions that vanish at scattered points in a bounded, Lipschitz domain that satisfies a uniform interior cone condition. The Sobolev spaces involved may have fractional as well as integer order. We then apply these results to obtain estimates for continuous and discrete least squares surface fits via radial basis functions (RBFs). These estimates include situations in which the target function does not belong to the native space of the RBF.

We present an extensive study of a large, room temperature magnetoresistance (MR) effect in tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum sandwich devices. The effect is similar to that previously discovered in π-conjugated polymer devices. We characterize this effect and discuss its dependence on magnetic field direction, voltage, temperature, film thickness, and electrode materials. The MR effect reaches almost 10% at fields of 10 mT at room temperature. The effect shows only a weak temperature dependence and is independent of the sign and direction of the magnetic field. Measuring the devices' current-voltage characteristics, we find that the current depends on the voltage through a power-law. We find that the magnetic field changes the prefactor of the power-law. We also studied the effect of the magnetic field on the electroluminescence (MEL) of the devices and analyze the relationship between MR and MEL.  相似文献

Kinetic studies of PET glycolysis by diethylene glycol (DEG), dipropylene glycol (DPG), glycerol (Gly) and mixtures of these glycols have shown, in a previous study, that the order of reactivity of the glycols differs according to the conditions of temperature and catalysis. Indeed, their global reactivity depends both on their chemical reactivity and physico-chemical properties.Glycolysis of model polyesters which are liquid at the reaction temperature, which allows us to overcome the problem of the polyesters' solubility, were studied to compare the chemical reactivity of these glycols. Three oligoesters were synthesized from dimethyl terephthalate and three different glycols namely triethylene glycol, ethylene glycol and hexanediol to form, respectively, PE3T, OET and PTHD.Results showed that the order of reactivity of the glycols is the same for PET, OET and PTHD but different for PE3T. Indeed, DPG without catalyst has a particular and unexpected behaviour: its reactivity seems to be strongly influenced by the presence of oxygen atoms in the chain.  相似文献

Electrostatic spring softening is an important characteristic of electrostatically actuated dual-axis micromirror, since it lowers the resonant frequencies. This paper presents an approach based on approximating the electrostatic forces by the first-order Taylor's series expansion to investigate this characteristic. The dual-axis micromirror studied in this paper has three motion modes, two torsional (about x- and y-axis, respectively) and one translational (about z-axis). The stiffnesses of all these modes are softened by a DC bias voltage applied to the mirror plate. The resonant frequencies are lowered with the increment of the bias voltage. The relationship of the bias voltage and the resonant frequencies of all the motion modes is derived. The analytical results show that the resonant frequency curves are affected by the capacitor geometries, i.e. the gap between the mirror plate and the electrodes and the electrodes size. The lowering curves drop slowly when the bias voltage is small. While for large bias voltage, the lowering curves drop rapidly. The experiment results are consistent with those obtained by the analytical approach.  相似文献

The classical economic production quantity (EPQ) model assumes that items are produced by a perfectly reliable production process with a fixed set-up cost. While the reliability of the production process cannot be perfected cost-free, the set-up cost can be reduced by investment in flexibility improvement. In this paper, we propose an EPQ model with a flexible and imperfect production process. We formulate this inventory decision problem using geometric programming (GP), establish more general results using the arithmetic-geometric mean inequality, and solve the problem to obtain a closed-form optimal solution. Following the theoretical treatment, we provide a numerical example to demonstrate that GP has potential as a valuable analytical tool for studying a certain class of inventory control problems. Finally we discuss some aspects of sensitivity analysis of the optimal solution based on the GP approach.  相似文献
